In 2025, FRINGE WORLD partnered with Inspiring Western Australia to provide funding of $4,500 to support two artists presenting a STEM-based work at the Festival. Both shows blended entertainment and education, bringing science to life through the arts and got a great response from audiences of all ages.
Gavin Nicklette – Comedy For The Curious: Animals!
Our major grant recipient, Gavin Nicklette, joined forces with marine-biologist-turned-comedian Robyn Perkins to create Comedy For The Curious: Animals! This show was a vibrant blend of stand-up, music, and science that had audiences laughing, learning, and leaving with a fresh curiosity about the natural world.
Across their FRINGE WORLD season, audiences stepped into Gavin and Robyn’s world. One audience member called it “an absolute treat for anyone curious about the world.” The funding from Inspiring WA supported the shows' efforts to increase their marketing reach and audience engagement across the festival.
Magnus Danger Magnus – Kaboom!
With a knack for turning scientific concepts into amazing live experiments, Magnus Danger Magnus’s Kaboom! was a crowd favourite. Welcoming nearly 2,000 attendees, Magnus brought science to life with spectacular demonstrations, humour, and heartfelt moments.
For many neurodivergent children and their families, Kaboom! was more than a show – it was a space where they felt seen and celebrated. As Magnus shared, “The overwhelmingly positive response from neurodivergent children and their families was a clear highlight. Parents expressed deep appreciation for the inclusivity and thoughtful representation embedded in the performance.”
Since FRINGE WORLD, Kaboom! has continued to soar - selling out an extended season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, winning the Science Award at Adelaide Fringe, touring Queensland, and currently playing at Edinburgh Fringe.
One FRINGE Feed reviewer summed it up perfectly: “Kaboom! is a masterclass in making science feel magical, hilarious, and heartwarming all at once.”
